Bible Verses for What A Beautiful Name

While I initially resisted this song due to its repetitive chorus (basically epitomizing the 7-11 stereotype of modern Christian worship), it won me over.  First of all, the verses are powerful, filled with references to God's Word.  Second, the choruses are true.  The name of our Lord is beautiful, wonderful, and powerful.  Finally, the psalms are filled with songs that are very repetitive.  (I wonder what critics of modern worship think of Psalm 136 and all those "For His love endures forevers?")

What A Beautiful Name

Verse 1:
You were the Word at the beginning
One with God, the Lord Most High.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Hebrews 1:1-2 God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. 

Jesus said in John 10:30 "I and the Father are one." 

Your hidden glory in creation
Now revealed in You, our Christ.

Speaking of Jesus Christ in Colossians 1:15-17 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together.

Colossians 1:26-27 that is, the mystery which has been hidden from the past ages and generations, but has now been manifested to His saints, to whom God willed to make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Verse 2:
You didn't want heaven without us,*
So, Jesus, You brought heaven down.

1 Timothy 2:3-4 This is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

Jesus said in John 12:32 "And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all men to Myself."

Hebrews 12:2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Romans 5:20-21 The Law came in so that the transgression would increase; but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, even so grace would reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Philippians 2:9-11 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and that every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Bridge 1:
Death could not hold You; the veil tore before You.

About Jesus in Acts 2:24 But God raised Him up again, putting an end to the agony of death, since it was impossible for Him to be held in its power.

Matthew 27:50-51 And Jesus cried out again with a loud voice, and yielded up His spirit. And behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth shook and the rocks were split.

The heavens are roaring the praise of Your glory

Psalm 19:1 The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And their expanse is declaring the work of His hands.

Speaking of Jesus in Hebrews 1:3-4 And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, having become as much better than the angels, as He has inherited a more excellent name than they.

Speaking of Jesus in Colossians 1:18 He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything. 

Now and forever, God, You reign.

Luke 1:31-33 "And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall name Him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will have no end."

Yours is the Kingdom; Yours is the glory.

Matthew 6:13 ‘And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.’

Yours is the Name above all names.

Ephesians 1:20-21 which He brought about in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.

Peter spoke of Jesus in Acts 4:12 "And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men by which we must be saved."

* Concerning some controversy over these lyrics, I do understand that God did not create us because He needed us.

Acts 17:24-25 The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands; nor is He served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives to all people life and breath and all things; 

However, the lyrics don't say that He needed us, but that He wanted us.

Jesus said in John 17:24 "Father, I desire that they also, whom You have given Me, be with Me where I am, so that they may see My glory which You have given Me, for You loved Me before the foundation of the world."

1 Corinthian 1:9 God is faithful, through whom you were called into fellowship with His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord.

I believe the point of the author is that God loved us enough to create us, knowing we would reject Him, and to save us, though we were not worthy of His redemption.
