If you are reading through the books of the Bible, it is helpful to understand the theme of each book. I have an old printable with the themes from each book of the Old Testament , but I've updated them by making a Quizlet out of them. There are quizzes for each division of the Old Testament to help you learn them in chunks. You can access them on Quizlet here . On Quizlet you can practice matching keywords in different, fun ways. My Favorite Bible Apps

Smartphones seem to have taken over our culture.  We are often warned about the dangers of cell phones: distractions when driving (or even walking), the decline of social interactions, and the lack of mental focus to name a few.  However, smartphones can be a tool when used properly  Here are some apps that will help you learn more about God from His Word. Devotionals: Our Daily Bread Many are familiar with the Our Daily Bread daily devotional that you can get in the mail or pick up at many churches.  However, you can now listen to it on your phone through their app available from Apple, Android, and Kindle Fire .  I love that you can listen to this instead of just read it.  And the corresponding Bible passage can be opened up through a link to BibleGateway.com in the app.  Some of the great features include setting up daily reminders, opening it directly to today's devotional, and changing to one of many languages.  You can also...

A Review of What's In The Bible With Buck Denver  More than a year ago, I made an investment in teaching my children the Bible.  I'm always on the lookout for good resources for Bible education.  "T he word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword" (Hebrews 4:12) and " All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness" (2 Timothy 3:16).  Why would you neglect such a powerful book when training your children?  There are many children's Bible education resources today.  Lots of story Bibles, children's Bibles, songs, videos, apps, and books.  I have lots of resources and many ways to teach my children about God's Word.  I love all of the options available, but it's important to be discerning and involved in your child's Bible education.  Your children might learn about the Bible in Sunday School and you might provide books and videos, but the p...

My Favorite Children's Storybook Bible

I have quite a few Children's story Bibles.  Some were gifts and some I bought myself.  Most are decent, but one of the ones I have really stands out to me.  It does an excellent job of showing children the overall theme of the Bible.  It is The Big Picture Story Bible by David Helm with illustrations by Gail Schoonmaker. Here are the main things I am looking for in a Bible story book: Good Story Content: They are definitely incomplete as they don't contain all of the Bible stories.  Of course, we all have our favorite stories that we would like to see included, but it's impossible to have them all in there.  However, it is good to have a wise selection of which stories to include. Good Bible Interpretation: On top of that, Bible story books are not literal translations of the Bible so they are an interpretation of the author.  Therefore, you hope the author knows how to accurately translate the Bible.   Good Story Telling: The t...

Top Free Online Sunday School Resources

When I'm working on a Sunday School lesson or just something to teach my kids the Bible at home, I have a few free online resources that I've found helpful.  I have these bookmarked so that I can find them easily.   Disclaimer:  While I like these websites, I can't vouch for every piece of material on them. As always, be discerning and evaluate each thing you plan to use to make sure that it is biblically accurate. My Review of Jonathan Park Audio Adventures I was introduced to Jonathan Park Audio Adventures when I won a giveaway of a set of books on a friend's blog.  I already knew that my friend and her family loved listening to Jonathan Park, but I had never heard of them before.  It was the perfect opportunity to see what my friend liked about the Jonathan Park.  We found the books to be exciting and good at explaining concepts from creation science. Then, Vision Forum (the original maker of the Jonathan Park Audio Adventures) closed down and was having a clearance sale on the CDs, so I was thrilled to be able to buy the entire set at a much reduced price.  However, it was sad that it seemed that Jonathan Park was ending just as I discovered it.  Thankfully, Jonathan Park was bought out and the series continues.   My family listened to all of the Jonathan Park series and found them to be intriguing, striking, and thought-provoking.  My son loved...

A Review of NKJV Adventure Bible

A few years ago, I decided my 7-year-old son needed a new Bible.  He had received a simple King James Bible as a gift, but it had no extras and I knew he had difficulty understanding it.  We had used several Children's story Bibles, but I wanted him to be able to read actual Bible verses on his own and also be able to participate in Bible reading during Sunday School classes and Bible studies.  So began my search for just the right Bible for my son. Since I am a little hyper on researching things, I thought that I'd share our experience by reviewing the Bible we selected: the NKJV Adventure Bible. First, a little about my son.  He is very advanced in his reading skills, so though he was in first grade, he probably read at least a 4th-grade level.  However, he is still a second grader, so he wanted lots of color, pictures, and explanations.  He also wanted it to look interesting. For Valentine's Day, I was going to do a hymn study on a hymn about God's love. God's love is the ultimate example of love.  His loving is giving, sacrificial, and gracious.  Our love can only hope to be a reflection of his agape love. Bible Scavenger Hunts

We recently had a Sunday School picnic at our house and I needed a large group game.  I wanted to do a scavenger hunt and decided to include Bible clues.  So I used biblestudytools.com (or I could have gotten old school and pulled out my concordance) and searched in the Bible for objects that were in my yard.  I started with door, tree, and table.  Then, I remembered sand, steps, porch, flowers, and even herbs.  Finally, I got a little creative and used "shed" and "mail." To play the game, give the teams their first clue.  They should fill in the blank in the Bible verse.  The word in the blank is where they should go next.  When they get there, they should find the next clue.  They should continue following the clues until they get to the final location.
