Holy Week Teaching Resources

Image
When it comes to covering the life of Jesus, a lot of the gospels spend a lot of time on his last week. In fact, more than 30% of the four gospels cover just the eight days from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday. The book of Mark has the highest percentage covering the Holy Week, with 36% of the book dedicated to recounting those eight days. With so much happening that week, it can be difficult to keep the events straight. That is why I created these resources. Having a grasp of the order of the events helps students understand the context of each event, explaining the how and the why of what happened. This bundle of resources focuses on teaching what events happened each day. The free sample includes several versions of the Timeline of Holy Week and Reading Plans that are great resources for teachers. The first reading plan option is reading the events of each day of Holy Week on that day. The second reading plan spreads those events out more evenly over those eight days with about 150 v...

Old Testament Eras Teaching Resources

Image
In my college classes on education, I remember my professor constantly pushing that students needed a framework on which they could hang their knowledge. If they only shoved information in their brains without any organization or connection, it wouldn't be retained or understood. Think of a pile of facts about someone's ancestors compared to an illustration of their family tree. The visual framework is much easier to understand and helps them retain information about their ancestors. Instead, we need to provide students with a framework, so that they see how it connects to other information and can see the big picture. This educational philosophy has always stuck with me. As I saw my children learn about the Bible at church, camp, and home, it dawned on me that they are learning many Bible stories but don't really have a framework on which to hang this knowledge. They knew about Samson but didn't know what judges were or why Israel had them. They knew about Daniel but...

Books of the Bible Memory Aids

Image
I was teaching my own kids the Books of the Bible but saw a need for some resources. There are some decent flashcards, but I was looking for something that coordinated colors and symbols across flashcards, signs, and other processing activities. As a Sunday School teacher and parent, I recognized the need for engaging resources to teach the Books of the Bible to children and teens. In response, I created a set of coordinated flashcards, signs, and worksheets.   Flashcards The great things about flashcards are all of the ways that you can use them. Obviously, they can put the cards in order, but that is just the start. One thing that teachers do to help students is to "chunk" information into smaller groups so that students only have to process that smaller amount of information. So you can pull out only one section of the Bible. For example, pull out the OT History books) which is easy since the cards are color-coded by section so all the OT History cards are turquoise. Then,...

Ten Commandments Children's Bible Lesson

Image
Do you need a fun way to teach children the story of God giving Moses the Ten Commandments, what they are, and what their purpose was and is? With hands-on activities, printables, active games, and fun crafts? And multiple ways of processing the Ten Commandments for different types of learners and ages. The activities use shortened versions of the Ten Commandments and symbols to help kids remember them. The same symbols and wording for the shortened commandments are used across all of the activities. The wording I used for the commandments is listed below: No other God No idols  Don’t swear  Rest on Sabbath  Obey parents  Don’t murder  Honor marriage  Don’t steal  Don’t lie  Don’t be jealous This lesson includes links to songs on YouTube and links to printables to be used in the craft. There are also finger puppets for each commandment that work great if you have them memorize the commandments.  They also work great for the kids ...

Children's Bible Education Resources for at home

Image
With most schools currently closed, parents are looking for resources to help them manage their children without going out or interacting with others. First, as we get used to our new home routine, parents shouldn't overwhelm themselves or their children by adding too much to their routine. However, you should find these resources to be uplifting and encouraging both for you and your children.  Some of these require very life parental involvement (the videos, music, and some of the apps). All of them should help your family get through these difficult weeks stuck at home.
