Holy Week themed Easter Egg Bible Scavenger Hunt

Image
If you have followed me for a few years, you know that I have made several Bible scavenger hunts using Bible verses as clues to lead my kids around our house to a prize. On Easter morning, I put the clues in plastic Easter eggs and use them to lead my kids to their Easter baskets. They look forward to this tradition every year. This year I created Holy Week resources to teach them the events of each day of the week leading up to Easter. It includes a flap book, a cross foldable, cards, bingo, Bible reading plans, and timelines. So I wanted to tie this year's scavenger hunt in with the Holy Week theme. I picked a verse from each day of Holy Week and used it as a clue. I am excited to see them find the eggs (and their Easter baskets at the end). I also created an alternate version to be used in a church so that people who are using my Holy Week resources in their church can play too. The home version has the following clues: coats, chairs, fruit, table, towel, water, spices, and S...

Holy Week Teaching Resources

Image
When it comes to covering the life of Jesus, a lot of the gospels spend a lot of time on his last week. In fact, more than 30% of the four gospels cover just the eight days from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday. The book of Mark has the highest percentage covering the Holy Week, with 36% of the book dedicated to recounting those eight days. With so much happening that week, it can be difficult to keep the events straight. That is why I created these resources. Having a grasp of the order of the events helps students understand the context of each event, explaining the how and the why of what happened. This bundle of resources focuses on teaching what events happened each day. The free sample includes several versions of the Timeline of Holy Week and Reading Plans that are great resources for teachers. The first reading plan option is reading the events of each day of Holy Week on that day. The second reading plan spreads those events out more evenly over those eight days with about 150 v...

Easter Basket Scavenger Hunt 3

Image
If your children enjoyed my previous Easter basket scavenger hunt, here is our latest version. Two years ago, we used Bible verses about the story of Jesus' death on the cross. Last year, we used Bible verses about the story of Jesus' resurrection. This year, I use ideas from the story of Jesus' resurrection without actually using Bible verses. Now, let's celebrate the joyous occasion of His resurrection with a new set of clues.  Here's how to get started:  Download and print this PDF.   Cut out each clue.  Place the first clue in an egg, ready to be handed to your eager little hunters. Alternatively, you can leave it on the bottom step for a fun surprise as they come downstairs. Place the second clue inside an egg and hide it at the location written on the bottom of the second clue (a hamper). Continue the hunt by placing each subsequent clue inside eggs and hiding them at the location indicated in the bottom right corner of the clue. Finally, hide your chil...

Easter Bible Scavenger Egg Hunt 2

Image
My kids love finding their Easter baskets using a scavenger hunt. Last year, we used Bible verses that tell the story of Jesus' death on the cross . This time I used verses about Jesus' resurrection. I also included two versions. One version has the keyword in bold. In the other version, the keyword is missing so they have to look up the Bible verses. It's pretty simple to use.  Print out the pdf .  Cut out the clues. Place the first clue in an egg to hand to your kids. Or you can place it on the bottom step for when your kids come downstairs. Put the second clue in an egg and hide it at the location in the first clue (keys). Put the third clue in an egg and hide it at the location on the bottom right of the clue (lamps). Continue putting each clue in an egg and hiding each egg at the location on the bottom right of the clue.  Hide your kids' Easter baskets (or some other prize) at the last clue (books). Enjoy!

Easter Bible Scavenger Egg Hunt

Image
This week, I've been looking for a scavenger hunt that uses Bible verses from the Easter story as clues as a fun way for my kids to find their Easter baskets. I was not having any success finding what I was looking for. At all. So I made one. And I'm sharing it for others who might be looking for something similar.  It's pretty simple to use.  Print out the pdf .  Cut out the clues. Place the first clue in an egg to hand to your kids. Or you can place it on the bottom step for when your kids come downstairs. Put the second clue in an egg and hide it at the location on the bottom right of the clue (table). Put the third cule in an egg and hide it at the location on the bottom right of the clue (bread). Continue putting each clue in an egg and hiding each egg at the location on the bottom right of the clue.  Hide your kids Easter baskets (or some other prize) at the last clue (nails). Enjoy!

The Resurrection of Jesus Bible Study

Image
With the day set aside to celebrate Jesus' resurrection quickly approaching, my mind has been on Jesus' resurrection. First, I copied all of the verses that I could find about it onto a sheet and then I started scribbling notes about all kind of things. Below is the printable Bible study that came out of my study. Through it, you can explore all of the predictions and evidence of Jesus' resurrection, the work of the Trinity in the resurrection, and how the resurrection effects Jesus and believers.  If you are interested in a secondary study about Jesus' resurrection, tally how many times each of the different names of Jesus is used when discussing His resurrection. The different names are interesting and some appear more in one section of Scripture (the gospels, Acts, or the epistles) more than others. Hopefully, this Bible study will prepare your heart for Resurrection Day. Of course, it's always a good time of year to study Jesus' resurrection. Pay par...

Bible Verses to Anthem Light's Easter Medley

Image
My husband recently came across this video of a mash-up of Easter songs by Anthem Lights. It's fabulous. The songs flow together seamlessly and the harmony is amazing, but all three songs have words based on Scripture making the song even more powerful. And if you like Because He Lives by Bill and Gloria Gaither, then you should check out my song study of Matt Maher's Because He Lives (Amen) . If you are interested in more songs and children's lessons for Easter, check out my Easter page. Easter Medley Because He Lives by Bill and Gloria Gaither My Redeemer Lives by Nicole C. Bible Verses for Jeremy Camp's Same Power

Image
Lately, I have been posting verses on my social media accounts about the power of God. I spent a week on each of these themes: Power belongs to God. God has the power to save and sanctify. Man's power can do nothing compared to God's. God's power is tied to the Holy Spirit. God gives power to His people. God has power for resurrection. The last topic had me often breaking out in song. I was constantly singing either Chris Tomlin's Resurrection Power or Jeremy Camp's Same Power. What a blessed reminder of God's power these songs are! The story behind Jeremy Camp's song is encouraging. Also, the power of Christ's resurrection is in believers through Christ and the Holy Spirit has two main effects: It provides hope for our future physical resurrection. If Christ has been raised, then we who are in Him will also be raised. ( 1 Cor. 6:14 ). It enables us to live in godliness now. We are spiritually united with him in his death and re...

I believe I overcome By the power of His blood Revelation 12:11 And they overcame him because of the blood of the Lamb and because of the word of their testimony, and they did not love their life even when faced with death. Chorus : Amen, Amen I’m alive, I’m alive Because He lives Jesus says in John 14:19 After a little while the world will no longer see Me, but you will see Me; because I live, you will live also . Bible Verses for One Day/Glorious Day

Image
There are many songs that I love to sing on Easter:  Christ the Lord Is Risen Today, Christ Arose, Because He Lives, and He Lives.  However, none of them are as strong on biblical content as One Day.  One Day was written in 1908 by John Wilbur Chapman with the music written by Charles H. Marsh.   It is written creatively and intelligently with a lot of scriptural connections.   Unfortunately, the music is no longer in style (I love old songs, too, but few songs today are written in 9/4 time).  Thankfully, Michael Bleecker rewrote the music to the song in a nice updated form in 2008.   Mark Hall built off Bleecker's version , adding bridges and again rewriting the chorus.  While Michael Bleecker did an awesome job, Mark Hall's final version is even more powerful.  Even the newly-added bridges are packed with biblical truth, which is not very common these days.  My favorite part of the song is the chorus. Here is the origi...
