Starting A Bible Reading Habit

Image
With the new year approaching, you may be looking for a New Year's resolution that will improve your life. You can plan to exercise more, eat less, eat better, or spend less time on your smartphone. However, the most important resolution that you can make for next year is to read your Bible more. Why Read the Bible I could try to convince you why you should read the Bible more, but I think it's best to let it speak for itself. 2 Peter 1:19-21  So we have the prophetic word made more sure, t o which you do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place , until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts. But know this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of one’s own interpretation, for no prophecy was ever made by an act of human will, but men moved by the Holy Spirit spoke from God.  2 Timothy 3:16-17  All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousn...

My Favorite Resource for Bible Questions

Sometimes I read the Bible and it just makes sense.  Sometimes I have situations in my life and I can see the passages of Scripture that just fit my circumstances.  Sometimes I consider theological and ethical questions and find exactly what God has to say about them in His Word.  Sometimes. When I can't find the answers I am looking for in the Bible, I ask for help.  I am very blessed to have several friends and family that can often point me to a verse in the Bible or explain something that just didn't make sense to me.   However, if you have questions and don't have someone to turn to for direction about God's Word, there is a place you can turn to ask questions.  While there are many sources you can look for answers to life's questions, this is one place where the answers will come from the Bible - Answers From The Book. Answers From The Book has a website - answersfromthebook.net  or you can follow them on Facebook .  Their ...

My Favorite Bible Apps

Smartphones seem to have taken over our culture.  We are often warned about the dangers of cell phones: distractions when driving (or even walking), the decline of social interactions, and the lack of mental focus to name a few.  However, smartphones can be a tool when used properly  Here are some apps that will help you learn more about God from His Word. Devotionals: Our Daily Bread Many are familiar with the Our Daily Bread daily devotional that you can get in the mail or pick up at many churches.  However, you can now listen to it on your phone through their app available from Apple, Android, and Kindle Fire .  I love that you can listen to this instead of just read it.  And the corresponding Bible passage can be opened up through a link to BibleGateway.com in the app.  Some of the great features include setting up daily reminders, opening it directly to today's devotional, and changing to one of many languages.  You can also...

Keys For Kids Devotional Review

Image
My son has a really awesome Sunday School teacher.  They do a lot of hands on activities.  They even made a topographic map of Paul's missionary journeys out of salt dough!!  Yes, I realize how blessed our family is.  A few years ago she gave my son a mail subscription to Keys for Kids daily devotional because she wanted to make sure he was getting into the Bible every day.  My son loved it and would read all of the stories.  I even had to make sure that he only did that day so that he would have something new to read tomorrow. Then, he noticed in one mailing that they had an app.  Like most kids, my son loves anything electronic (though we have limits on his electronic time) and was thrilled to try out the app.  He loved reading or listening to the daily devotional on his iPod instead of reading it in the booklet, but the app was a little glitchy, often closing out before he got the chance to finish reading it.  When I contacte...
