Holy Week themed Easter Egg Bible Scavenger Hunt

Image
If you have followed me for a few years, you know that I have made several Bible scavenger hunts using Bible verses as clues to lead my kids around our house to a prize. On Easter morning, I put the clues in plastic Easter eggs and use them to lead my kids to their Easter baskets. They look forward to this tradition every year. This year I created Holy Week resources to teach them the events of each day of the week leading up to Easter. It includes a flap book, a cross foldable, cards, bingo, Bible reading plans, and timelines. So I wanted to tie this year's scavenger hunt in with the Holy Week theme. I picked a verse from each day of Holy Week and used it as a clue. I am excited to see them find the eggs (and their Easter baskets at the end). I also created an alternate version to be used in a church so that people who are using my Holy Week resources in their church can play too. The home version has the following clues: coats, chairs, fruit, table, towel, water, spices, and S...

Easter Basket Scavenger Hunt 3

Image
If your children enjoyed my previous Easter basket scavenger hunt, here is our latest version. Two years ago, we used Bible verses about the story of Jesus' death on the cross. Last year, we used Bible verses about the story of Jesus' resurrection. This year, I use ideas from the story of Jesus' resurrection without actually using Bible verses. Now, let's celebrate the joyous occasion of His resurrection with a new set of clues.  Here's how to get started:  Download and print this PDF.   Cut out each clue.  Place the first clue in an egg, ready to be handed to your eager little hunters. Alternatively, you can leave it on the bottom step for a fun surprise as they come downstairs. Place the second clue inside an egg and hide it at the location written on the bottom of the second clue (a hamper). Continue the hunt by placing each subsequent clue inside eggs and hiding them at the location indicated in the bottom right corner of the clue. Finally, hide your chil...

Christmas Decoration Bingo

Image
You may have already read that one of my family's favorite Christmas traditions is driving around to look at Christmas lights. A local church has a light display coordinated with music on your radio that we love to visit. On the way to and from the church (with a few extra turns), we drive around to complete a  Christmas Decorations Scavenger Hunt . I have altered my version a few times and printed some from other websites, but this year I created a new bingo version.  Before you go out for your drive, print out a  Christmas Decoration Bingo Card  for each person participating. Then get comfy for your ride. Feel free to wear your Christmas pajamas and take blankets. Have a clipboard (or hardcover book) and pencil for each person to mark off the decorations you see. Throw in a snack like hot cocoa (or stop for a peppermint mocha) and some Christmas cookies. Most importantly, enjoy the time together as a family during the busy Christmas season!

Ten Commandments Children's Bible Lesson

Image
Do you need a fun way to teach children the story of God giving Moses the Ten Commandments, what they are, and what their purpose was and is? With hands-on activities, printables, active games, and fun crafts? And multiple ways of processing the Ten Commandments for different types of learners and ages. The activities use shortened versions of the Ten Commandments and symbols to help kids remember them. The same symbols and wording for the shortened commandments are used across all of the activities. The wording I used for the commandments is listed below: No other God No idols  Don’t swear  Rest on Sabbath  Obey parents  Don’t murder  Honor marriage  Don’t steal  Don’t lie  Don’t be jealous This lesson includes links to songs on YouTube and links to printables to be used in the craft. There are also finger puppets for each commandment that work great if you have them memorize the commandments.  They also work great for the kids ...

Easter Bible Scavenger Egg Hunt 2

Image
My kids love finding their Easter baskets using a scavenger hunt. Last year, we used Bible verses that tell the story of Jesus' death on the cross . This time I used verses about Jesus' resurrection. I also included two versions. One version has the keyword in bold. In the other version, the keyword is missing so they have to look up the Bible verses. It's pretty simple to use.  Print out the pdf .  Cut out the clues. Place the first clue in an egg to hand to your kids. Or you can place it on the bottom step for when your kids come downstairs. Put the second clue in an egg and hide it at the location in the first clue (keys). Put the third clue in an egg and hide it at the location on the bottom right of the clue (lamps). Continue putting each clue in an egg and hiding each egg at the location on the bottom right of the clue.  Hide your kids' Easter baskets (or some other prize) at the last clue (books). Enjoy!

Easter Bible Scavenger Egg Hunt

Image
This week, I've been looking for a scavenger hunt that uses Bible verses from the Easter story as clues as a fun way for my kids to find their Easter baskets. I was not having any success finding what I was looking for. At all. So I made one. And I'm sharing it for others who might be looking for something similar.  It's pretty simple to use.  Print out the pdf .  Cut out the clues. Place the first clue in an egg to hand to your kids. Or you can place it on the bottom step for when your kids come downstairs. Put the second clue in an egg and hide it at the location on the bottom right of the clue (table). Put the third cule in an egg and hide it at the location on the bottom right of the clue (bread). Continue putting each clue in an egg and hiding each egg at the location on the bottom right of the clue.  Hide your kids Easter baskets (or some other prize) at the last clue (nails). Enjoy!

"Sunday" Drive Scavenger Hunt

Image
If you are like most of the country, you are stuck in your home and getting cabin fever. If you are anxious to get out of your house, why not take a drive? My kids were less than excited about going for a drive until I mentioned a scavenger hunt. Unfortunately, Google pulled up no scavenger hunts that fit driving through our county so I made one up. Of course, if I make something for my family, I usually decide to share it with you. Feel free to print out this  scavenger hunt . Also, you can share this page with friends so they can print them out. Enjoy your drive! If the items on this scavenger hunt do not fit your area or season, you can access an editable version of this printable on Canva and drag new pictures and edit the captions here .

Christmas Decoration Scavenger Hunt

Image
Our family has many Christmas traditions: going to a Christmas Eve service, reading the Christmas story in the Bible on Christmas morning before opening our presents, and making Christmas cookies. However, my children have a favorite tradition. They love seeing Christmas lights. A nearby church has a light show where you turn on your radio and watch the lights coordinated to the music. It's very well done and we have a great time, especially since they have hot chocolate and cookies as well. We added our own Christmas decoration scavenger hunt to look for things on the way to and from the light show and now we have our favorite Christmas tradition. We usually just google one and print it off, but we made up our own this year and thought we'd share it with you. Click here or below to print out the scavenger hunt. Then enjoy!

Christmas Minute-To-Win-It Game Night

Image
My Grandmother is one of ten kids and, of course, her family always wants to get everyone together for Christmas. For many years we got together on Christmas day. We met in family homes, but when they were outgrown we rented granges and church buildings. With kids, grandkids, and now even great-grandkids, we would sometimes have as many as 60 people together on Christmas day. Last year, we had our first Christmas party that was not on Christmas day. As each generation got married, more families were involved and it made it difficult for people to be available on Christmas day.  Since it was our first year where we got together the Saturday after Christmas, I decided to make some Christmas Minute-to-Win-it games for the younger people to play. So I googled some games, adapted others, and created some of my own for the party. Since I am a planner and I was worried that things wouldn't go smoothly, I had my family practice one evening. They all agreed that we should do M...

Road Trip Games and Activities for Kids

Image
I usually only share things on my blog about the Bible. However, recently we went on a three-week road trip to visit some friends and family and to attend a Bible conference and some friends were asking some advice about activities that I used for my children on the trip. Not only did I need activities for more than 40 hours in the car, but I also needed quiet activities for my 4-year-old during some of our meetings at the Bible conference. First, let me share about my kids. I have an intellectual 10-year-old who loves puzzles, video games, and superhero cartoons. Then, I have an active, enthusiastic 4-year-old girl who loves moving, educational activities, and preschool cartoons. Here are some things that worked for us on our trip: WORD GAMES First, we had a list of word games that we could play in the car. Some of these were easy enough for our 4-year-old and some were not, but none of them required anything other than the use of your brain. I made this list and now ke...
