Bible Verses for Cornerstone

Image
In 2011, Hillsong took the hymn The Solid Rock (My Hope Is Built On Nothing Less) and added a chorus and made an awesome praise song called Cornerstone.  I loved the hymn and I love this song just as much.  Check out the Bible verses that go along with the hymn and praise song. Matthew 7:24-27  “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock . Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell—and great was its fall.” Cornerstone Words of verses by Edward Mote (1797-1874) Chorus words and music by Jonas Myrin, Reuben Morgan & Eric Liljero ...

Bible Verses for One Day/Glorious Day

Image
There are many songs that I love to sing on Easter:  Christ the Lord Is Risen Today, Christ Arose, Because He Lives, and He Lives.  However, none of them are as strong on biblical content as One Day.  One Day was written in 1908 by John Wilbur Chapman with the music written by Charles H. Marsh.   It is written creatively and intelligently with a lot of scriptural connections.   Unfortunately, the music is no longer in style (I love old songs, too, but few songs today are written in 9/4 time).  Thankfully, Michael Bleecker rewrote the music to the song in a nice updated form in 2008.   Mark Hall built off Bleecker's version , adding bridges and again rewriting the chorus.  While Michael Bleecker did an awesome job, Mark Hall's final version is even more powerful.  Even the newly-added bridges are packed with biblical truth, which is not very common these days.  My favorite part of the song is the chorus. Here is the origi...

Thy Mercy, My God

Image
Recently, I was reading through some songs in my hymnbook (my beautiful Hymns for the Little Flock published in 1881 with just words and no music) when a hymn struck me as familiar. Thy mercy, O God, is the theme of my song, The joy of my heart. and the boast of my tongue; 'Tis free grace alone, from the first to the last, That wins my affections, and binds my soul fast. It was just one verse and I read it over and over trying to place it when I realized that I had heard it sung by Caedmon's Call.  Wait... what?!?!  Caedmon's Call sang this old hymn.  When I later looked into the hymn I found it was first published by John Stocker in 1776 in England.  Yes... the year the Declaration of Independence was signed.  John Stocker was a friend of A.M. Toplady who wrote Rock of Ages.  Sandra McCracken, founding contributor to Indelible Grace (a "re-tuned hymn" movement), rewrote the music to this more-than-200-year-old hymn in 2001.  Caedmon's Call (and...

Strangely Dim

Image
Strangely Dim by Francesca Battistelli I've had all these plans piled up sky high A thousand dreams on hold And I don't know why, I got a front row seat To the longest wait And I just can't see Past the things I pray Today But when I fix my eyes on all that You are Then every doubt I feel Deep in my heart Grows strangely dim All my worries fade And fall to the ground Cause when I seek Your face And don't look around Any place I'm in Grows strangely dim Sometimes where I stand On this narrow road Is in a raging storm Or a valley low But oh When I fix my eyes on all that You are Then every doubt I feel Deep in my heart Grows strangely dim All my worries fade And fall to the ground Cause when I seek Your face And don't look around Any place I'm in Grows strangely dim I don't know, I don't know What tomorrow may hold But I know, but I know That You're...

Scripture and Christians Songs for Times of Trouble

Image
Death of a loved one.  Failed hopes.  Fears about a health problem.  Broken relationships. Betrayal by friends.  Everyone goes through times of trouble.  Sometimes we ask God why. Sometimes we just want to cry.  Here are some Scriptures and songs that have helped me through my times of trouble. Blessings by Laura Story We pray for blessings, we pray for peace Comfort for family, protection while we sleep We pray for healing, for prosperity We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering And all the while, You hear each spoken need Yet love us way too much to give us lesser things 'Cause what if your blessings come through rain drops What if Your healing comes through tears What if a thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You're near What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise We pray for wisdom, Your voice to hear We cry in anger when we cannot feel You near We doubt your goodness, we doubt...
