Holy Week Teaching Resources
When it comes to covering the life of Jesus, a lot of the gospels spend a lot of time on his last week. In fact, more than 30% of the four gospels cover just the eight days from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday. The book of Mark has the highest percentage covering the Holy Week, with 36% of the book dedicated to recounting those eight days. With so much happening that week, it can be difficult to keep the events straight. That is why I created these resources. Having a grasp of the order of the events helps students understand the context of each event, explaining the how and the why of what happened.
The Cross Foldable and the Timeline Flap Book are great beginner resources. They allow the students to learn the major event of each day.
- Palm Sunday - Triumphant Entry
- Monday - Jesus Cleanses the Temple
- Tuesday - Jesus Debates the Leaders
- Wednesday - Judas Agrees to Betray Jesus
- Thursday - The Last Supper
- Friday - Jesus’ Crucifixion
- Saturday - The Tomb is Secured
- Easter Sunday - Jesus is Risen
The students can then practice naming those major events for each day and have something to take home to share what they have learned with their families.
Holy Week Event Bingo is a great way to continue making these events familiar. The bingo cards are organized so that the events of each day are grouped together. When you choose a bingo calling card, stating the name of the day will help the students find that event on their bingo card. I highly recommend using jelly beans as bingo markers. Thirty bingo cards are included. In addition, the bingo calling cards can be used for playing charades, 20 questions, or drawing games.
There are also Holy Week Flashcards available. Unlike the bingo calling cards, these cards are two-sided with the day on one side and the event on the other. Included with the flashcards are pages for each day. These can be placed on the table or stapled to a bulletin board so that students can match each event with its day. These cards can also be printed as one-sided cards and used to play a matching game. Just put the cards face down and then you have to flip two cards and if the event matches with the correct day, then you get to keep the cards.
The entire set of resources is available as a bundle, saving you money. These resources are great for Sunday School, Christian schools, homeschooling, Bible studies, and with your own children. While they work great for children, they would be helpful for teens and adults who are studying these events. The clipart is not childish-looking. Also, this doesn't have to be used around the Easter season. The events of Holy Week can be studied at any time of the year.
These resources make it easy and engaging to teach the events of Holy Week in a way that helps students truly understand and remember them. Whether you’re using the timeline, foldables, bingo, or flashcards, each tool is designed to reinforce learning while keeping students actively involved. With multiple ways to study and review, these resources work well for all ages and learning styles. Grab the bundle today and make teaching Holy Week both simple and meaningful!
