Holy Week Bible Activities Bundle: Timeline, Games, Crafts, and Cards

Image
Teaching Holy Week can be challenging. Students may know about Palm Sunday, the Last Supper, and Easter Sunday, but they often struggle to understand how all the events fit together. Learning the sequence of events helps students see the bigger picture of Jesus' final week before His crucifixion and resurrection. This is especially important because the Gospel writers devoted a significant portion of their books to these events. In fact, more than 30% of the four Gospels focus on the eight days from Palm Sunday through Easter Sunday. The Gospel of Mark dedicates approximately 36% of its content to Holy Week alone. With so much happening during those eight days, it can be difficult for students to keep the events straight. That's why I created this collection of Holy Week resources. These activities help students learn what happened each day while building a deeper understanding of the context surrounding Jesus' death and resurrection. Whether you're teaching in a Sunday...

Easter Basket Scavenger Hunt 3

Image
If your children enjoyed my previous Easter basket scavenger hunt, here is our latest version. Two years ago, we used Bible verses about the story of Jesus' death on the cross. Last year, we used Bible verses about the story of Jesus' resurrection. This year, I use ideas from the story of Jesus' resurrection without actually using Bible verses. Now, let's celebrate the joyous occasion of His resurrection with a new set of clues.  Here's how to get started:  Download and print this PDF.   Cut out each clue.  Place the first clue in an egg, ready to be handed to your eager little hunters. Alternatively, you can leave it on the bottom step for a fun surprise as they come downstairs. Place the second clue inside an egg and hide it at the location written on the bottom of the second clue (a hamper). Continue the hunt by placing each subsequent clue inside eggs and hiding them at the location indicated in the bottom right corner of the clue. Finally, hide your chil...

Old Testament Timeline Resources: Helping Students See the Big Picture of the Bible

Image
Do your students know lots of Bible stories but struggle to understand how they fit together? Many children can tell you about Noah, Moses, Samson, David, Daniel, and Esther. They may know dozens of stories from Sunday School, church, homeschool lessons, and family devotions. But when asked where those people fit in the overall story of the Bible, many students aren't sure. Questions like these often reveal the problem: Why was Daniel living in Babylon instead of Israel? What exactly were the judges? Did David live before or after Moses? How do the prophets fit into Israel's history? Which books of the Bible happened during which events? The issue isn't that students lack Bible knowledge. Often, they simply lack a framework for organizing what they know. Why Students Struggle with Bible Chronology One lesson from my favorite education course in college has stayed with me for years. My professor frequently emphasized that students need a framework on which to hang their know...

Books of the Bible Memory Aids

Image
I was teaching my own kids the Books of the Bible but saw a need for some resources. There are some decent flashcards, but I was looking for something that coordinated colors and symbols across flashcards, signs, and other processing activities. As a Sunday School teacher and parent, I recognized the need for engaging resources to teach the Books of the Bible to children and teens. In response, I created a set of coordinated flashcards, signs, and worksheets.   Flashcards The great things about flashcards are all of the ways that you can use them. Obviously, they can put the cards in order, but that is just the start. One thing that teachers do to help students is to "chunk" information into smaller groups so that students only have to process that smaller amount of information. So you can pull out only one section of the Bible. For example, pull out the OT History books) which is easy since the cards are color-coded by section so all the OT History cards are turquoise. Then,...
